The AML decision: Basic vs Compliance
Sumsub does not offer AML screening as an a la carte add-on on Basic. If any part of your workload requires PEP and sanctions screening, you upgrade the entire account to the Compliance tier. That moves every verification from $1.35 to $1.85 (a $0.50 per-check delta), and the monthly minimum from $149 to $299.
On a 10,000/month workload, the Compliance upgrade adds $5,000/month before monitoring savings are counted. If you would otherwise pay a separate AML vendor for the screening, the bundled price is competitive.
Worked example: 10,000 verifications/month with full AML
Acme Neo-Bank (illustrative example, not a real company) runs 10,000 verifications per month requiring full AML screening, so picks Compliance.
Compare with Veriff Essential + PEP add-on for the same workload: ($8,000 + $6,400) = $14,400. Sumsub's bundled price is $4,100/month higher but includes ongoing monitoring and proof-of-address.
What Sumsub is good at
- Regulated-vertical depth. Particularly strong in crypto exchange, iGaming, and EU/UK challenger banking.
- Successful-verifications-only billing. You don't pay for failed attempts; can swing effective per-check cost 10-25%.
- 14-day trial with 50 free checks. Enough to evaluate dashboard and integration.
What to watch on Sumsub contracts
- Whole-account tier upgrade for AML. If you only need AML on a subset of customers, the Compliance-tier upgrade applies to all verifications.
- $299/mo Compliance minimum. Below ~160 verifications per month on Compliance, you pay the minimum regardless.
- Enterprise tier opacity. Fraud detection bundle is quote-only.
